bubonicwoodchuck: (run away)
I'm really behind in terms of Discworld news, I know, but I only just recently found the cast list for the upcoming Sky One production of The Colour of Magic, and, um. I'm kind of dubious about David Jason as Rincewind - he was quite a good Albert, but Albert and Rincewind are completely different, and David Jason may have the acting ability to pull off Rincewind but he simply won't look like Rincewind.

But that's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried about Sean Astin as Twoflower.

Ummm, hello? Twoflower =/= Samwise Gamgee. Twoflower is Agatean. Twoflower is...oh, forget it. I guess what I'm trying to say is:

What part of Masi Oka do they not understand?!

Yaaay Meme

Meme. Because I'm bored.

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence (or more) from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

Cut for length )

I've spent five hours feverishly reviewing every single problem I can find for my Calc test tomorrow. So before I head off to feverishly study for another four hours for my Euro test, I'd like to do a meme:

Name a character, and I will tell you in at least 100 words why I love that character.

(And if you pick Legolas, I will personally eat your brains.)

Also, for those of you who haven't seen yet and are interested in the Hogfather movie:

They messed up Teatime's eye. It's supposed to be greyish-white, not a Big Evul Black Thing Of Doom.

...but. Butbut. But. OMG. Pratchett-inna-waistcoat-and-cravat. And Assassins. And Wizards. And exploding papier-mache pigs. And a glimpse of what looks like Quoth. And Bilious! And Banjo! And.

*cannot wait until March*

Um, hallo, cannot wait for 1 PM EST. xD

"You'd like Freedom, Truth, and Justice, wouldn't you, Comrade Sergeant?" said Reg encouragingly.

"I'd like a hard-boiled egg," said Vimes, shaking the match out.

There was some nervous laughter, but Reg looked offended.

"In the circumstances, Sergeant, I think we should set our sights a little higher - "

"Well, yes, we could," said Vimes, coming down the steps. He glanced at the sheets of paper in front of Reg. The man cared. He really did. And he was serious. He really was. "But...well, Reg, tomorrow the sun will come up again, and I'm pretty sure that whatever happens we won't have found Freedom, and there won't be a whole lot of Justice, and I'm
damn sure we won't have found Truth. But it's just possible that I might get a hard-boiled egg."

Paul Kidby updated the production photos of the Hogfather movie on his website - they've finished filming the Unseen University scenes! Check them out here. It's a bit difficult to tell who's who at this point, though I think the chap in the maroon robes and the sunglasses in the second photo might be Ridcully. And in the photo directly below that, you can see a guy wearing a black suit standing behind the blue-checkered table; it's a bit hard to tell 'cos the picture's so small, but [livejournal.com profile] greencat and I think it just might be Teatime on coffee break, which is Truly Amusing. Also there are two photographs with Terry Pratchett himself in. ^^

And the news is looking pretty good in this thread in the IMDB board. Arcadiasfx, the special effects supervisor, has been kind enough to keep us updated for the past two months in terms of filming. Apparently it's Teatime's left eye which is going to be glass ("it took four of us to hold him down and pop out his real eye (so much blood) and get the new glass one in, but we managed it"), which I find mildly interesting, because most of his fanbase seems to think it's his right eye that's glass. He's also going to be blond, as befits canon, and will have a "very Edwardian sort of look," which is quite reassuring. *grins*

It's amazing how acadiasfx's managed to put up with us this far. xD If I were him, I'd have run away from the drooling nerds a long time ago.

Also, the lab practical today turned out to be - er - I won't say the e-word, but it was...er...quite manageable. ^^; I was lucky enough to be put in the same group with Lara and Kristina, who are two of the only people in that class who know what they're doing. Matt R was also in our group, and we cruelly forced him to clean the beakers and occasionally do important things like hold the pH probe. xD

Seeing as it's only twenty days away, I'd like to take this moment to plug [livejournal.com profile] howdotheyrise, a community dedicated to getting as many people as possible to wear lilacs on May 25th.

If you don't get it, you weren't there. ;)

(Also, I officially declare the end of May - and the entirety of June and July - Barricade Season. Cos.)

...yeah, I really wish I'd taken US History AP this year. It would've been tougher, but at the same time, we would've gotten to go over US history before the 1900s again. :P Anyway, we listened to Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire" in ASII today. Which wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the fact that I'd just read samvimes's filk, We Didn't Buy The Hardback, and the Discworld version was stuck in my head for the rest of the day. >.< It still is.

Um. Yes. Anyway. Worked on Chapter Three of UDÉM today. Honestly, it wouldn't normally wouldn't take this long, but what I do have is crap, so I'm constantly rewriting it. xP Thanks for leaving me with such a great leave-off point, Pathy. 'M thinking of emailing it to Pelly to see if she can make anything of it. Eventually gave up on UDÉM and returned to writing that Javert-in-Discworld fic, which is coming along quite well despite the fact that I haven't got a title as of yet.

...yeah. *goes back to typing* (What is this Vietnam round table of which you speak?)

Um...haha. And...erm...yes. :P

...I really have no excuse. None at all. Er - except that I don't think much at one in the morning. I just hope you never see Enjoromir and Ferramir.

And both Javert and Vimes look too young. I'm going to have to work on that.

(On a side note, fencing was fun today. ^^ I'm ordering stuff for the tournament - new foil, glove, mask, and jacket from the catalogue Mrs. K. gave me - which ought to be here by the end of the week.)

OMG Paul Kidby has got Hogfather movie photos up on his website

Looks like they're filming that one scene near the end, the one with ickle!Albert and the toyshop and Death, which I'll be vague about in case there's people about who haven't read Hogfather. And Susan doesn't really look like the way I picture her, but on the other hand she doesn't look half bad either, so that's good. ^^ And...omg. *dies* PHOTOS.

Also of note is the IMDB board for the movie, where the director, Vadim Jean, and the special effects supervisor are keeping us updated on the message boards. Apparently, they're filming the Unseen University scenes at the moment. *faint squee*

Also, because this had me rolling on the floor laughing, read The Sixpence Opera by samvimes. Cos it features Rincewind as Death, and a Chorus of Watchmen singing a song entitled "Music of the Night Watch."
